Tron : Legacy Review ( spoiler free )

The Long awaited sequal To the original Tron (1982) Movie is finally here with the amazing Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn the famous video game designer that got to live inside the program that he created and fight the injustice in that program.


does the sequel live up to the hype or does it destroy its own legacy ?


The story in Tron : Legacy focuses on the life of Kevin Flynn's son Sam and his quest to find his father and get back his dads old company back to its old form im trying to keep it as simple as possible without spoiling any of the major events with that said lets start with the good .


THE GOOD :

- Its the old Tron  times 3 its bigger, better, faster, and stronger, they took the simple idea of the previous one and did a botox injection with a facelift and it worked brilliantly .

- Daft punk did the soundtrack for this movie and they did an amazing job, the fight scenes makes you feel you are in a Daft Punk Concert and thats always a good thing .

- Jeff Bridges still stuns me with his performances he proved it in Iron Man and he did it again here, he can pull off a blockbuster action movie and keeps its alive on his own .


- The Visuals are something out of this world they are simply stunning, and most people will give this movie a 10 just because of that light show .

- They kept it close to the Tron roots which might not work in a 2010 movie release but it did , the ship, the tanks and the way the programs die its all from the 1982 original but so much better.

THE BAD :


- The characters are pretty weak, none are good except for some characters like "Zues" and Jeff Bridges " Kevin " beside that all of the character fall flat without proper emotions or on-screen charm.

- The 3D gimmick have plagued the movie industry and Tron : Legacy is not exempt, it tries not push the 3D with stupid fight scenes or explosions and keep it natural with that they didn't utilize 3D to the fullest and they should have stuck to IMAX, although near the end of the movie it gets better but too little to late .

- They tried to keep it as a mental war between two major characters but their build up falls after a couple of scenes for the sake of action .

- Some action sequences are very rushed and pushed to serve a climax or to keep you on edge and with that it loses its natural flow.



OVERALL :

If i didnt know better i'd say that Tron : Legacy is a Micheal Bay movie its too flashy with alot of bright lights with a thin plot, but thankfully it have thicker plot than Bay's work and it almost matches the fancy CGI, sadly the casting wasn't done properly for Sam Flynn's Character ( reminds me a lot of the Anakin Skywalker casting in Star Wars ) but Jeff Bridges and the amazing easter eggs in this movie really save it and plants a smile on the original Tron fans.


Its really enjoyable movie to watch, if you are an old Tron fan your home just got bigger and now its a mansion, and if you are new to the series welcome to the Playboy mansion of eye candy visual and Olivia Wilde.

We are back again with our greatest top movies list , and this time we are back with a vengeance , we are here to bring to a list of 20 top sci-fi movies , and i was shocked when i was researching at the amount of amazing movies in this genre , but i can only put one movie per franchise so dont give me hell for not including your favorite movie

 20- Equlibruim (2002)

in a apocalyptic world where art is considered a crime a police detective in charge of destroying art gets caught in a world of trouble for breaking the rule he always defended , this movie captures the spirit of a sci-fi movie but charge it with slight dash of emotion and whole lot of mind blowing action .

19- Moon (2009)

This is the second time we feature this movie , cause its so damn amazing you can check it out in our Amazing Movies You Never Heard Off !!  a story of a man stranded on the moon for 3 years living alone , losing him and making you lose yours . 

  

18- Twelve Monkeys  (1995)

The ultimate collaboration between two huge stars in the 90's ( Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt )  , this movie is about a time traveler who's trying to find the time period that started the end of the world and stop it , its a thrill ride filled with paradoxical situations.

17- Total Recall (1990)

Where do i begin with this one , its so complicated i dont think it can be described , there are mutants , amnesia , CIA , ancient pyramids , a young sharon stone working , its on mars and its starred by Arnold Schwarzenegger , enough said !!

16- Donnie Darko (2001)

 The story of a young boy coming of a age with a sinister twist of creature beyond this realm , till this day this movie freaks me out but its so amazingly put its hard to ignore this masterpiece of chaos and the amazing performace pulled by Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal .

15- Back To The Future (1985)

 

If you are a child of the 80's you have a smile on your face right now , we wanted to be marty mcfly and wanted to hurt biff , if your a 90's child i think you should see this movie or you will have a damaged brain / nostalgia and gushing 

Time Traveling cant be more fun than this with this amazing light humor and paranoid doc and how changing the past effect the future , and we got to say this 2.12 JIGGAWATS .

14- The Thing (1982)

John Carpenters finest work before he got lame and made (Ghosts of mars ), when your stuck in a harsh winter environment and  an outbreak hits the camp , who do u trust ? who's your real friend ? and who's be transformed into an evil alien creature , the suspense of it is so thrilling and the isolation plays its cords correctly .

13- V For Vendetta  (2006)

A Futuristic london ruled by an iron fisted goverment that bans arts and any form of self expression , similar to Equilibrium but this one is more drama infused and more memorable for its amazingly well written lines.

12- Children of men  (2006)

Imagine that the human race will end on your generation , pregnancies ceased to occur , and all the humans have faith in one kid , the youngest kid alive at the age of 18 , the movie features the journey of people through this corrupted world .

11- A Clockwork Orange  (1971)

The third movie for a futuristic London in our list , its Stanley Kubrick with this sick story of a young criminal running wild in London , killing and raping till he got arrested and faced with a government experiments in jail.

10- 2001 A Space Odyssey (1968)

Another Stanley Kubrick masterpiece this time located in deep space with amazing scenery with the first 20 minutes of the movie simply jaw dropping , and the amazing pacing that shows the evolution of man and the next step for humankind .

9- District 9 (2009)

An alien ship crash landed on africa near the old slums, what makes this movie standout is how it treated racism and hate in a subtle way and made it accessible to everyone to feel the pain and desperation of the alien who are stuck here and not visiting by choice .

8- Alien (1979)

A cargo ship traveling through space got a distress call from an uncharted planet , their company insisted they investigate and when they got back to the ship they brought something with them , Ridley Scott really took the claustrophobia and isolation to another level in this movie, and created a staple in the genre . 

7-  WALL - E (2008)

Life on earth is destroyed and all humans left earth for a better pasture , the only one left is a compacting robot named WALL-E , this movie is so easy to watch and love , and its amazingly put with a nice sense or isolation , amazing robot facial expressions and a good moral at the end , all happening in a colorful and humorous way for the whole family .

6-  Eternal Sunshine Of Spotless Mind (2004 ) 

Jim Carrey stars in his biggest non comedic role , and pulls it off so perfectly , the story about a broken man trying to forget his previous love and erase her from memories just so that he can resume his normal life , but can you erase your love ?

5- Akira (1988)

 This original masterpiece was released 1988 with technology that reached the mid 90's in animation , its astonishing how well made it is , its development is a sci-fi movie of itself , the story is dark and sinister and filled with gore. with a menacing project threatening neo-tokyo with crime and corruption running wild .

4- Terminator 2 : Judgment Day (1991)

The sequel that changed the franchise and pushed into new limits , this story of a time traveling machine sent back to protect a kid that will grow up and lead the human forces into a fight against the rising machines , arnold fits this part amazingly with his expressionless face and funny humor , i didnt know that the machine made their terminators in Austria .

3- Star Wars V : The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

It improved the formula of the first Star Wars and made Darth Vader the lead villian and the banter between the princess and Han Solo gets more heart warming with every line , this is the pinnacle of the Star Wars universe , and nothing come close to it. ( except A New Hope )

2- The Matrix (1999)

Imagine A World within a world and you  are merely a puppet controlled in every aspect in your life , from birth till death , this movie combined all the requirements of a sci-fi movie and perfected them , every second of this movie is vital to the plot and each scene is surprisingly perfect .

1- Blade Runner (1982) / Inception (2010)

This Is Odd but i really couldn't choose between them , i had to watch them both back to back and they are in the same level of perfection , the story of a Blade Runner ( sort of a detective ) who captures human replicas , or a story of a dream thief trying to juggle realities and dreams to reach for his children .


if you havent seen either of them i recommend you to watch both , and if you seen one im sure you will like the other , cause they reach for the sci-fi genre limits and expands universes from it .

The Social Network Review

the story of the rise of the internets biggest social network and the story behind the man who created it Mark Zuckerberg ,helmed by David Fincher ( Se7en , Fight Club ) is it good , or just another spammy FarmVille friend ?




Overview :


The poster says it all its all about the people around the creator , old friends or ex business partners trying to get a piece of the pie , after mark cheated his way into being the youngest billionaire but is he the bad guy or just a very smart guy and he earned his success and fame .



The Good :

- its a drama no doubt about it and a very good one the plot is thick and heavy with multi-layered characters that you can easily connect with , the plot is eased out by the lovely pacing which never gets you bored or ever slows down its David Fincher afterall .


- David Fincher did an amazing job with the direction in this one , the cuts and transitioning is something of a perfection , it blends two different scenes almost without letting the viewer notice the transition , with the helped of blurred out sounds , also another nice touch from this amazing director was the subtle figurative shots and lines ( its raining / a dark cloud ) which tells you subliminally the situation at hand .


- Trent Reznor the lead singer from Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack and he did an amazing job at it a piano notes played out on a industrial sound loop , sometimes the notes pop up near a climatic scene and it feels like its well placed and plot serving .



The Bad : 



- David Fincher style in direction is dark photography , and i dont think its suitable for this movie , i think a normal approach to photography will do its not as dark or disturbing as Fight Club or Se7en , sometimes its just an annoyance , with a cheesy cold breath effect those things kinda distracted me .


- the cast didnt make a strong impact , only with a couple of scenes showing true and strong emotions towards the end with justin timberlake being himself which was kind of annoying .


Overall :


its a fun to watch movie , its deep and well done with some flaws here and there and the cast came up inches short of the direction , but it didnt fail the overall enjoyment of the movie , if you ever wanted the story behind facebook this is the movie for you , its like a documentary only for a broader audience and with alot of fun .

The Dark Knight Rises

Christopher Nolan finally talked about it and now we know the name of the new Batman movie and more juicy info.


in a interview with Hero Complex Nolan revealed that the Batman 3 title will be The Dark Knight Rises, and in a move that may surprise some fans, he said that the film's villain won't be The Riddler.

its a shame cause the riddler is a perfect cast for a villain after the brilliant performance of the joker played by the late Heath Ledger , but it seems that nolan is looking for a female villain, is it Harley Quinn !?

She's Only Creepy When She Talks

so far its the best bet and the best one to follow after The Jokers menacing rampage in The Dark Knight , Harley's character is very similar of The Jokers but i hope its not more of the same .

Star Wars 3rd Trilogy .. Wait What ??

Yet again George Lucas is trying to milk his Star Wars franchise to the fullest but this time its in a good way , ok this gonna get complicated so bring a coffee mug or a herbal tea and clear your mind and sit on your comfy chair.

Now think Of Unicorns and rainbows

In the 90's the great George Lucas started fiddling with the original trilogy , into an improved and enhanced version filled with CGI , and after that the second trilogy ( the prequel ) started with the releasing with the phantom menace and the second trilogy started .


now in the 2000's George is doing it again but this time its not like the second abomnation trilogy , this trilogy is a brand new series with brand new characters ,as the second trilogy is being "remade" for the 3D era so its natural that a new series to start and its a good thing cause most people know darth vader or lord sidious but never heard of the other Sith Lords like : Exar Kun , Darth Revan and Sirak , and the events before the " A New Hope" are mostly vague to casual Star Wars fans .

the series should be released on 2015 , 2016 after the release of the 3D remakes .

Greatest Comedy Movies Ever

To me comedy is the rope line to us humans to drowning in life , some movies are awesome some are awful ( adam sandler im looking at you ) but some are legendary and everlasting , heres a list of the greatest works and the best things that happened to comedy beside me .




Anchorman The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004)

first things first will ferrel is not a good actor but whenever he's around adam mckay he's a legend ( talladega nights . step brother ) the sexism in this movie and the macho jokes are over the top , and typical of men of the 70's yet writer adam mckay perfected it with a most perfect cast you can get for a comedy movie and a powerful cameos .




Young Frankenstien (1974)

one of mel brooks finest works ever , its the ultimate throw back to those monster movies of the early 40's and 50's the movie was shot in a low budget form and with black and white which seemed odd but its perfected the feel of the sleazy horror flicks , with an amazing cast and Igor the best sidekick in any movie .

I Dare You Not To Laugh !

Dr.Strangelove : Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964)

another masterpiece shot in black and white featuring the great late Petter Sellers its our first dark comedy movie in this list and not the last im sure ,directed by the great Stanley Kubrick  this movie makes a nuclear war between russia and america during the cold war so much fun with witty dialogue and funny characters and awkard and stupid situations .




Airplane ! (1980)

one of the finest works for the amazing spoof trio Jim Abrahams , David Zucker And Jerry Zucker  ( Top Secret , Naked Gun Trilogy , Hot Shots , Scary Movie 4 ) this movie shines with jokes and spoofing other movies of the 80's its so filled with jokes you have to re watch it atleast 2 times to get all the jokes and references this movie is a bit offensive but it keep it tacky somehow , this is the best comedic performance for leslie neilsen with his " please dont call me shirley " line .

Shiiiiit, maaaaan. That honky muf' be messin' mah old lady... got to be runnin' cold upside down his head, you know?

Shaun Of The Dead ( 2004 )

im a big fan of British comedy but i have never seen it so perfectly done in this movie , the cold one liners to the funny situations the only thing i can say its a pure masterpiece and it will be matched in our generation of comedian , simon pegg and nick frost carried out the scenes with an amazing transitions and kept the plot relevant .

ps: if im gushing too much i dont give a damn , its my favorite zombie / comedy movie :P
 




Mars Attack ! (1996 )

Tim burton doing a comedy movie ! strangely enough he pulled it with a strong ensemble cast and young actors ,its a funny spoof of the those alien movies in the 60's as shown in the intro of the movie , even the shape of the alien saucers are a total throw back to them, but the cake in this movie have to be jack nicholson he had such a strong screen presence .

Monty Python And The Holy Grail  (1975)

And the best for last , the legendary Monty python series is without any introductions one of the best comedy series ever ( the meaning of life  , flying circus ,life of brian )  this movie will test your sanity and test your sense of humor , its so crazy and outrageous your are bound to laugh , it gets you in the credits and keeps the insanity going all movie long , its will scramble your head and serve it to you  .

i've been waiting for this movie a long time , its the reunion of simone pegg ,nick frost  and edgar wright after the masterpieces " Shaun of the Dead " and " Hot Fuzz " now they are back for " Paul " a buddy comedy flick with an alien encounter.


Paul is set to release on February 2011 .

RED Movie Review

Bruce willis is back in his action movies saddle , is he good or he's too old to play the superhero action man he used to play in the 80's ?



The Plot :


ironically he plays a down on his luck retired man with nothing in his life , no wife no kids no hope , he falls in love with the girl and people start chasing him , shots fired and an explosion (spoiler free intro :P )


The Good :


- you have bruce willis , morgan freeman , john malkovich and hellen mirren all sharing one liners and jokes , its a real joy to watch these fine actors cracking jokes about bruce willis hair , or john malkovich being too old to do anything , making fun of old people wasnt enough till this movie came along .


- the director was loving his job , the way he plays out the action and sequences is fresh and original , i havent seen this approach to directing done so well since the days of " mr. and mrs, smith " , its fun over the top , highly enjoyable and really bad ass . ( read the bad )





The Bad :



- the movie starts out strong with funny jokes , strong action then when the plot thickens it drops the comedy action and goes into a light drama mode with a dash of romance , its like watching two separate movies , and the over the top action in the starts of the movie vanish's in middle of it . it started as a action movie turned into a romance then morphed into a heist movie , it lack consistency .


- having an ensemble cast is always an issue you have to sideline some actors , in this case john malkovich and morgan freeman felt like cameos instead of supporting roles , and in morgan freemans case it was really just a filler to extend the movies time , he served a little purpose in the main plot , but it was a joy watching him .


- the end is soooooooo anti-climactic i was stunned by how lame it was , it felt like the writers wrote themselves into a corner ( although the plot is very linear ) and u can almost here the director say : wrap it up we are running out of reels .




Overall

i loved this movie it reminded me of romancing of the stone , it was fun with high paced action , but it lost its charm and became a boring heist movie , doesnt mean it wasnt funny , it just could've been better if they kept it close to its original idea .

I've been intrigued by first trailer but it didn't make up my mind on it , now this one did its a mixture between independence day and district 9 , its seems to me like a decent pop corn flick and not a huge grossing blockbuster .

Amazing movies that you never heard off !

Many of us to watch a movie that you saw a trailer of , or read about somewhere , yet sadly not all movies get the same publicity as major blockbusters with huge budgets , in this list im going to show you part of the greatest movies i have ever saw :




Moon (2009)

sam bell is a man responsible for providing earth with the material it need to survive to do that he have to be stationed on the moon alone for years , without human contact and only his robot friend GERTY to help him out , he starts to lose his mind and thats when it gets interesting.


why its so amazing : this movie without a doubt will test your sanity to the limit and the claustrophobic and loneliness of the moon sets the tone for this wild ride , its a one man show the whole movie you only get to see one main character , its a dangerous risk but sam rockwell pulls it off with a huge success , also the voice of kevin spacey is a nice touch .






Pi (1998)




a man who's good at math find the beauty in Pi and tries to implement it on the stock exchange market to find a pattern, to predict the future of things and have the power of knowledge .


why its so amazing : darren aronofsky's first masterpiece on our list , this movies is shot in black and white and it feels like a pure film student project , yet it has its charm and the style becomes part of the story , the character development is pretty amazing it shows how a normal man can turn crazy by his obsessions , and how it can control your life and behavior .





pan's labyrinth (2006)





a stepdaughter to a ruthless army man escapes her collapsing world to find a magical world that is filled with fairies and monsters , she must survive the trails set to her by those creatures to be their princess .



why its so amazing : EVERYTHING !! simple as that , the world that Guillermo del torro created makes tim burton's alice in wonderland look like yesterdays pizza , the creatures feel real and organic and the trails are simply bewildering and the main character does a really good job with connecting with the viewer,and the best part is Javier Navarrete's soundtrack u will hum it all day . The Fountain (2005)


a love story thast everlasting between a dying wife and her devoted husband keen on saving her from cancer that crosses over 1000 years


why its so amazing : even the describtion is weird and it gets you thinking , this movie is darren aronofsky's sceond entry in our list and his best yet , i havent seen such an amazing work of art such as this one which lands the spot for the second greatest movie of all time in my list ( and clint mansell soundtrack trumps the one in pan's labyrinth )







Ed Wood (1994)



a down on his luck movie and plays producer try his best to get a funding to finish his never ending list of B movies and bad scripts .


why its so amazing : first off this johnny depp's finest role (jack sparrow minus the pirate clothes ) its a dark comedy so cruel and dark the jokes are on the actual lives of the cast , with some 4th wall breaking jokes ,the movie is carried out by the strong performances of johnny depp and martin landau which will make u come back and watch it over and over cause the click on the first scene together .






Sin Nombre (2009)



the story of a group of immigrants trying to get to the united states to join their families , but as always their journey is filled with immigration guards and Mexican and Guatemalan gangs .


why its so amazing : the characters are easily one of the strongest feature in this movie , you can easily connect to them and you actually care what will happen to them , its rare to see such an emotional investment in a movie character. its raw,gritty and real .
